The idea is simple enough: comparing 2 of our childhood icons. One from the world of
television and the other from the world of Nintendo (despite the fact that both ended
up on both... but that's not important!). Anyways, here begins the comparison.
* NOTE: This originally started as a discussion Erin was making on her webpage (Platypus Girl),
but I didn't want to take up an obscene amount of space on her messageboard. Werd.
Similarity #1: Both Megaman and Astroboy are refered to as "boy-robots" and with good cause.
They were both designed by their "fathers" (Dr. Light - Megaman; and Dr. Boynton - Astroboy) to look like little boys because of something that they lost.
Similarity #2: Both heroes fight evil throughout the world. Megaman fights giant robots created by one Dr.
Wily (though, some were amde by Dr. X... but we all know how that really worked!), and Astroboy fights giant robots as well. Who were
they made by? Again, I forget, but I know they were there. He also fought aliens and just regular bad guys too,
but thats' not the point I'm tryng to make!
- Dr. Wily
- Some random villain of Astroboy... yes.
Similarity #3: Both had dogs. Astroboy had Spot (it's sad, but that was his name... very creative) and Megaman had Rush (the much
cooler of the 2 dogs as he too was a robot and could turn into a jet, a boat, and a springboard. Man's bestfriend indeed.)
Similarity #4: Both had appendages that were above par. Megaman with is "Megablaster" for a righthand, and Astroboy, of course,
with his rocket legs. Which is better? The ability to fly, or the ability to blow thine enemies into tiny bits? The
answer is up to you.
Similarity #5: Both wore ridiculous outfits. Sorry guys, but it's true. You both wore speedos for crapsake!
True, Megaman wore his over tights, but not Astroboy. But, Megaman had that odd wrestling helmet that gave him bad
hat-hair... though who am I to talk?
Similarity #6: Neither Astroboy or Megaman is Optimus Prime. It's just a fact people!
Similarity #7: Both had really awesome music. I mean, Astroboy's "Soaring high in the sky..." song is a classic. And
I don't know anybody who doesn't love Megaman's countless themes (hell, whenever I hear a weird electronic-techno song, always at least
one person will say "hey... thsi sounds like MegaMan music!") Classic.
Similarity #8: Both provided me, and countless other children of the 80's/early 90's hours of amusement, and
perhaps that's the most important thing of all. That and the ability to blow thine enemies into tiny bits. That's
pretty awesome as well.
I'm sure there are many other similarities as well, but I am done for now. When I think fo more, I will add to the list. Werd.
