The Top 10 Most Memorable Beetlejuice Episodes

by Erin Q. Gillis, Esq.

As you may or may not know, the director of the Beetlejuice cartoon has been to thePuddingStore. This is all thanks to resident cartoonist Ryan, who gave Mr. Beetlejuice-Cartoon-Director-Guy (his name escapes me, and Google isn't providing answers) the link to "Mighty Fine Day", via thePS. The fact that Ryan received a response from Mr. BCDG allows us to conclude that Mr. BCDG has, in fact, been here. I think this is just wonderful, so to celebrate, here is an article on the Beetlejuice cartoon! Let's count 'em down, shall we?

10. Stage Fright
I always liked the episodes involving Lydia's school, and this is the one that sticks out most in my mind. It's the one where they're doing "Romeo and Juliet", and I just remember it being particularly funny. Something involving Clare and bees. Yup.

9. Pat on the Back
Beetlejuice makes some comment about deserving a "Pat on the Back", so, naturally, a little Irish guy grows out of his back. This episode is memorable because of how annoying it was. Christ, Pat was irritating.

8. Out Of My Mind
Beetlejuice says he can't get Lydia out of his mind, and so she literally gets trapped there. It's just a really neat episode with lots of cool visuals in Beetlejuice's brain. Lydia eventually gets out with the help of a little wimpy guy named Will Power who keeps repeating "Out of sight, out of mind" over and over. Then they eat spaghetti.

7. Quit While You're A Head
With the head hunters! I think this might have been memorable because it was a full half-hour instead of 15 minutes. Also, it's the only one on my list for which I could find a specific picture.

6. A Dandy Handy Man
Beetlejuice shows up as a handyman to fix a leak in Lydia's kitchen, and all the tools go crazy. I like/remember this episode for two reasons. One is that it shows a lot of Lydia's darkroom and photos, which were ultra-rad. The other is Beetlejuice's jack hammer -- it looks/acts/speaks like Jack Nicholson. Oh how I love Beetlejuice puns.

5. Prince of the Nietherworld
Prince Vince! He's hilariously depressing, and he takes Lydia to a movie called "The Monster Tongue That Ate Chicago". That's not why this episode made it to #5 though. Okay, you know how Beetlejuice was clearly in love with Lydia, even though they never mentioned it? Well this episode was devoted almost entirely to Beetlejuice's jealousy. Awww!

4. Spooky Boo-Tique
"Shop till you freak at the Spooky Boo-Tique." That phrase is forever burned into my skull. Thanks for brainwashing me, Beetlejuice.

3. Spooky Tree
This is is the most touching and emotional episode. Actually, it's probably the only touching and emotional episode. Sad: The city wants to cut down Spooky (Lydia's favorite tree), and chaining herself to him and whatnot doesn't seem to be working. Angry: Beetlejuice gives Spooky the power to walk, and he goes crazy all over the city. Happy: Spooky eventually gets re-planted and all is well. Le sigh!

2. Skeletons in the Closet
Second-most memorable because it's definitely the scariest episode of any cartoon ever made in the '80's/early '90's. Even scarier than the Boogie Man episode of "Ghostbusters"! Gahhh. I don't want to talk about the skeletons in Beetlejuice's closet. It still freaks the hell out of me. Meep!

1. Laugh of the Party
In my opinion, this is the best Beetlejuice episode ever aired, and I'm sure many of you would agree. How could it not be the best, with "Party People in a Can"?! Also, Lydia's pink bunny costume was awesomely creepy.

Anddd that about wraps it up. I miss Beetlejuice. Deadly voo!
