Blackout 2005: The Zombies Return but the Blackout Doesn’t
Many months had passed since my horrible near-encounter with the undead (if you’ll recall I
was out of the room at the time of the attacks), and life had finally gone back to normal in many
ways. People went about their lives/unlives, and all was well. Most people forgot all about
Blackout 2004, and perhaps that was for the best. However, for those who didn’t, there was
always a monument to see to recall those days of pain and glory. And that monument is
“Zombie Raid.”
This game console at the CBU arcade was the exact re-creation of that horrific day (but told as if
it was the early 1900s, I believe, and the zombie hunters had shotguns) to the finest detail. It
was a thing both of beauty and great disdain. But, on this day, I chose to visit the monument and
recall my fallen comrades, Kris and Brent. If you’ll recall, Kris became a zombie, and killed
Brent by eating his brains. Sad times.
The saddest part of all was the fact that I had to play “Zombie Raid” all by myself. Those that
hung around late in the afternoon on Fridays had all been killed/didn’t have to go/stay at the
school on Friday afternoons. I shot a crap-load of zombies, just like my ancestor, Todd, did in
the past with a thumb-tack. But this was far lamer. I got bored pretty quick actually.
So, I just went back to the table where all this mess started and thought about that fateful day.
Many tears were wept and whatnot. I couldn’t get the image of that first zombie killing Kris out
of my mind... er wait... I think it was all fake up til Kris killed Brent... I dunno. I pictured bad
zombies, and thus had an incredible urge to go back to the monument and kick some major
digital-zombie ass! But, when I got there someone else was playing the game. Someone I never
would have expected to be there at all. He really shouldn’t have been there at all, and I’m still a
bit confused as I write this.
It was Brent! Turns out he became a zombie afterall! Crazy, huh? And what was weirder was,
he was a good-zombie! Not the evil killing kind at all. In fact, he liked killing zombies and
helping mankind, which was why he was playing “Zombie Raid.” Having most of his brain
located presently in the intestine of another zombie in Maine made zombie-Brent think that the
game was real. What a retard. Also, you can notice that a year of being dead hasn’t helped
Brent’s hygiene at all. Well, maybe a little.
So, we played “Zombie Raid” for a while until we realized that it was a really shitty game. But I
couldn’t just end it like that! I mean, how often do zombies come to the college?! Apparently
just once a year, and frankly that’s just not enough! So, I had to take advantage of the situation
as best as I knew how. So we played Bust-A-Move.
I’m sure if zombie-Brent could think real thoughts, this is what he would have wanted.
Something tells me that if Brent hadn’t been dead for a year, he would have played Bust-A-
Move fairly often. Perhaps... perhaps. Fate saw to it that we should never know. But yeah - we
played the hell out of it. Jonjon played too, but the camera wouldn’t take his picture. I think
he’s a vampire. A vampire AND a zombie in the same arcade?! Wild. Halloween
wild.
Sadly zombie-Brent couldn’t stay for long. He was very quickly rotting all over the floor, and he
only really had one of those 24 hour zombie-curses on him. Kinda like the one from “Weekend
at Bernie’s 2" only shorter and with less dancing, and he had wasted most of those hours
repulsing girls in the cafeteria. Just like the old days.
Farewell zombie-Brent. Who knows what the future will hold for you and the “Blackout” series.
Perhaps a few more stories, perhaps not. We’d have to add new characters for something like
that...
Kinda like this guy!!
THE END...?!
