An Interview with One Day Late:
Outside St. Marks Hall, in the freezing bitter cold, I had the opportunity to chat with the lads of local band One Day Late. Here is what insued:
Z - Zach MacLean, One day Late. I play guitar.
N - Nathan Richards, also of One Day Late. And bass and sing.
P - Pete. I play drums for One Day Late.
J - Jono Hunter, and I play guitar for One Day Late.
PS - What do you think of the local scene of today?
Z - I think it's pretty cool, actually. It's not bad... a lot of support, I guess, not right now, but it's pretty good.
N - It's fun.
Z- I like playing here. If we ever got big, and like, toured, and we were like huge, I'd come here and play.
PS - To this hall, or...?
N - Definately this hall, yeah.
Z - We'll play at a free show. People should take advantage of free shows.
PS - What is your favorite local band?
Z - Rudy Huxtable Project.
J - Putz. Putz are and always will be the best band that ever graced the North Side and Sydney area.
N - And something must be said for Tilted and Nothing to Say.
(everyone in unison:) - Oh Yeah.
Z - One Day Late's pretty good...
P - Yeah... One Day Late are awesome.
(At this point the rockin' sounds of After School Special take up a few seconds of the tape... damn hooligans.)
PS - What's your favorite color?
Z - Even though black's not "a color", I like black.
N - Green.
P - Dark navy blue.
J - Red... uh...
Z - Hot pink! Man, hot pink!
PS - What's yoru favorite kind of pudding?
Z - Chocolate.
N - Oh, chocolate.
P - Vanilla.
J - The stuff with the chocolate on top, and vanilla on the bottom.
(Once again, in unison:) - Oh yeah.
P - I forgot about that!
Z - I find they're like, those little packs though... little snak-paks... They're a tease man. You gotta have every one of them. You can't have one.
PS - What would help the local scene develop further?
Z - More bands. Variety of music.
J - Like, people to notice bands.
(at this point you can here the tape recorder shaking violently... it was really cold out!)
PS - How did you guys get started?
N - Jono...
J - Me and Nathan were talking in history class like, "let's start a band!" and he was like, "alright." And then we went to Pete's and then Zach came and...
N - Actually, the way I remember it: yeah, Zach and I wrote songs like a year ago, or more than that. And we were trying to find somebody to play them with. And we were thinking Pete, but nothing ever came of it. And then, the way Jono and I were talking about it, and I said "well, why don't we just get Zach and Pete?" And then that kinda worked out I guess.
PS - What's the best ninja movie?
Z -3 Ninjas!
P - Yeah, 3 Ninjas!
PS - Actually, that's what Glenn (of After School Special) said too.
P - Did you ever see "Big Trouble in Little China"with Kurt Russel?
Z - Yes!
P - That's deadly!
J - Can I name another movie that's not kung-fu?
PS - Sure.
J - I bought it for 2 bucks at Sydney Mines Video, and it's called "Lobster Men from Mars". It's incredible. It's the dumbest movie... but it's awesome!
N - I never watched ninja movies when I was a kid, cause my favorite movies were, like, "Cinderella" and stuff.
PS - If there was a fight between Kristen MacLean, with the ability to stop time, and Pope John Paul the second, with the power of the Catholic religion behind him, who would win?
J - Well, Kristen has that bat that has "DRUNKS" written on it...
N - Well, you see, Kristen would probably kick the crap out of the Pope, but then the Pope would have him, like, burned at the stake. So, in the end, I guess Kristen would win because he'd be a big Atheist martyr.
P - I bet ya the Pope's got some good moves.
PS - Well, he's gotta be if he can take all the other Popes...
P - Does he got his cane?
PS - He's got the cane adn the hat, and the Pope-mobile.
Z - I heard a funny joke about the Pope like a week ago, but I totally forget it.
PS - In closing, does anyone have any words of inspriration?
Z - Listen to local music.
P - Have fun with the music.
N - Yeah, make sure you have fun.
J - Money!
Z - Come see us!
