Batman VS. The World

Okay, for WAY too long, more or less everyone I talk to about comics (with the slight exceptions of a few remarkable people who grasp the logic of the situation) have used the argument that, “Batman is not a real super hero,” for various reasons. These reasons all piss me off because they are very lacking in logic. It amazes me how universal these arguments are, as it’s always usually the same points, and they all are against Batman. However, my personal favorite is:

Batman is not a super hero because he has no super powers.

First of all, I consider the incredible intelligence and uncanny detecting skills of the Caped Crusader to BE a super power. Anyone can catch a criminal/have justice served if they actually see the crime happen (I’m talking to you Superman/Spider-Man... with yer damn camera...). Batman has to actually figure things out - stuff that is not only impossible to figure out by anyone else, but also, if looked at, makes perfect sense. Also, where do you think he gets all those gadgets? He doesn’t just have them shipped to “Batman c/o Waynetech Enterprises.” No! He invents those, stupid. Don’t be so stupid, stupid.

Also, why should the fact that he doesn’t have powers (other than incredible intelligence) be held against him? He accomplishes a lot more than many of other superheroes, including those so-called “real” super heroes (the ones with powers). Spiderman screws up something (either in his personal life, or for the city on a daily basis, and Superman is just plain retarded. But no, they’re real heroes, because one let a spider bite him and the other came from a planet that got destroyed. No, Batman has no powers, but he still gets the job done. And he doesn’t whine about it. “Wah! I have too much responsibility! Blah blah blah! Even if I can’t tell people who I am because it’ll endanger them, I’ll let them know I know the guy, thus endangering them just the same! I know what I’ll do! I’ll struggle with the idea of not telling anyone my secret identity, and then tell the very people I wasn’t gonna tell! Wee!” I don’t “hate” Spiderman, per- se, I just don’t think he’s all that great. Though, he too gets the job done. Just don’t get me started on “spidey-sense”...

Batman uses his vast wealth to help him invent gizmos to help him solve crimes, and have criminals to justice. He is using a resource at his disposal to benefit others. He realized something about great power, or great responsibility or something - only he didn’t have to kill his uncle to realize it (I just keep slamming Spidey, don’t I? Oh well...). In theory that’s no different than any super hero using their powers, except Batman’s are a little more realistic, another thing which shouldn’t really be held against him. Also, he IS using own money for this, where are other “heroes” (I’m not gonna use names, but 2 of them have the initials SM) use their heroing for profit - one with pictures, the other with articles. Pretty lame guys. I think that’s the only reason they do it.

Why did the world turn it’s back on him? He’s fighting for you, the same way Spidey, Superman, and... I dunno... the Maxx do. Sure, Batman doesn’t have any of the powers that are deemed truly super, but then again, Green Lantern does. I rest my case.
