My Beef With Lays
By, Erin Gillis
It started when I was looking through the list of All Things Yellow. One
of the items is the bags of Regular flavored Lays chips. And that got me
thinking, aren't the yellow bags usually Salt & Vinegar? Yes, it seems
that all brands of chips -- Humpty Dumpty, Ruffles, even Co-op brand --
have some unspoken universal agreement to package their S&V's in yellow
bags. And it doesn't stop with yellow! Red is for Barbeque, purple is for
All Dressed, green is for Sour Cream & Onion, and blue is for Regular. But
not with Lays! Nooo, Lays has to screw up the whole deal so that we have
to memorize two color codes! It's just like the metric system and that
other one! And what's with the Lays flavors anyway? There are no All
Dressed Lays, but there are plenty of absurd flavors like "EXTREME
Barbeque" or "Cheddar." Who wants cheddar chips? (Actually, I've tried
them, and they're not bad, but that's beside the point.)
Then again... there is the possibility that Lays could be the
non-conformist of chip bags. If this is the case, then I respect their
unique choice of packaging. However, it is an inconvienience to my life,
albeit a small one, but an inconvienience none the less. Another small
inconvienience is the fact that I can't spell the word "inconvienience."
At least I don't think I can. But anywho! I end this ranting with a
question that has boggled my mind for many a year... If Humpty Dumpty was
an egg, why is he a mascot for potato chips?
Sincerely, <-- professional, eh?
